We’re baaaaack! Mexico was delicious and our beloved Royal Resorts knocked it out of the park as usual. What that translates to is that while I’m feeling energized and much less stressed than I was when I left, I’ve also fluffed up a bit. Back to the gym we go.

While looking for workout inspiration, a friend recommended jump rope. While it’s a great cardio activity, it would likely be too hard on my knees, but it did bring to my attention a remarkable young man. This is Dayan Kole, A.K.A. The Skipster. Kole initially made a name for himself in the world of gymnastics, but his social media videos and tutorials of his now-famous jump rope workouts are what have made him truly famous. This charming, handsome young man (with near-perfect English) realized as a teen that it was very difficult for young, untrained people to make a living in Bulgaria. As soon as he could, he left for Switzerland, where he worked as a waiter and studied German and English like it was his job. After a short, unsuccessful stint in college, Kole tried his hand at the hospitality industry. That also proved not to be a great fit, but it did expose him to some very successful entrepreneurs who inspired him to find his own niche and start a business.

Kole’s fondness for fitness soon pointed him toward jump rope, and he turned his commitment and knowledge into a thriving career. He is the owner and creator of the popular jump rope brand Swissskip. According to Kole, jumping rope daily has many health benefits including preserving cardio health, improving bone density, help with coordination and balance, increasing endurance, and stress relief, among others. Come to think of it, I have quite a few friends whose heart rate will go up over these videos…

You can follow Dayan Kole on his website and on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

I will settle for the rebounder.

I was really into skipping (what we called jump rope) when I was younger and I was actually really quite good at all sorts of fancy footwork, including doing Double Dutch skipping. Nowadays I would blow both my knees out just attempting to skip for more than ten minutes. It is great exercise though.
