MetalMorphosis Cars

As a non-driver, I don’t usually get too excited about cars, though I confess I have always had a soft spot for vintage Volkswagens. Rodney and Cake Culp describe themselves as a classic Volkswagen building power couple, and they may be one of the happiest creative teams in the world. Using classic VW Bug shells, they build custom, air-cooled, designer cars, and their slogan is “…because we can.” Their eye-catching builds are truly gorgeous, and I’ve never seen anything like them.

As they say in their bio, MetalMorphosis doesn’t just restore Volkswagens, they reinvent them. They spend $50,000 in parts and invest over 1,000 hours of their time. And perhaps the most amazing part of it is that their beautiful cars all go for charity. Donations benefit the MetalMorphosis Charitable Foundation, whose mission is to minimize the effects of human trafficking by funding education, housing, health, and safety for severely underprivileged children. When you donate to the Foundation, you are automatically entered in the drawing for a car!

You can follow MetalMorphosis Cars on their website and on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. You can also donate and be entered to win one of their magnificent rebuilds on Charity Beetle.

I drove a ’67 Karmann Ghia when I was 18-20 years old. I will ALWAYS regret letting that car go (can’t put a baby carseat in one). I toy with finding another one now and then and these are AMAZING.

Great customizations! My Dad was a spray painter by trade so I grew up studying paint colours. My Dad used to quiz me on shades of the same colour. This was nostalgic for me in other ways too as we also used to go to lots of vintage car shows.
