Every year, on the second Sunday in May, London’s Jermyn Street at the entrance to Picadilly Circus undergoes a transformation. The location of a fairly-famous Beau Brummell sculpture seems to spontaneously attract scores of people aimlessly wandering around in vintage dress. Dandyism is the word of the day. Dozens of flamboyantly-dressed people drift along the street, all heading for their hero’s sculpture. Hosted by Chap Magazine, this is the annual Grand Flaneur* Walk.
*In case you weren’t aware (as I wasn’t), a flaneur is a mostly-defunct term for an idler or lounger.

“Once a year this saunter sans purpose begins by assembling every well-dressed fop, dandy, quaintrelle and boulevardier in the shadow of Beau Brummell, where they allow the many photographers to snap them in the entrance to Piccadilly Arcade…  Some of these gentle souls already knew each other; some were complete strangers. By 12.30 they were all friends, united for one day under the aegis of the… Grand Flaneur Walk.”
