Buttermilk french toast sounds glorious. I am going to try this one!

To all the mothers* and to the motherforkers who love them (you know who you are), I wish you a happy Mother’s Day.

5/10/15: I love brunch. It combines two of my great loves: breakfast and day drinking. Today, we are celebrating Mother’s Day with a brunch for Beloved’s family. Here’s my menu: grimosas (our own name for a mimosa with grapefruit instead of orange juice), truffle-scrambled eggs, bacon, chili pie (turkey chili baked in a pie crust covered in shredded cheddar), herb-roasted potatoes, and fresh fruit. Alas, no french toast. I don’t know why, but I didn’t think to include it in the menu, and it’s too late now.

Fun fact: French toast is neither French nor typically toasted.

Nonetheless, I thought this would be a good day to showcase some of the more creative French toast recipes I’ve found. When I make mine (rarely), I make it of challah bread with a topping of sauteed ripe bananas, raisins, orange zest, rum, butter, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Amazing. And if you’re making brunch, don’t forget the candied bacon!

Have a delicious day!

It it's savory you're after, this baked french toast stuffed with ham and gruyere cheese would be amazing.

Lemon Meringue French Toast. Damnit.

Lemon Meringue French Toast. Damnit. This is the one that’s going to be the end of me.

When I told Beloved about Apple & Brie Stuffed French Toast, her response was “That sounds like it wouldn’t suck.” So you see what I’m up against.

This créme brûlée french toast is sure to be a hit, even if you just serve it for dessert.

This Créme Brûlée French Toast Casserole is sure to be a hit, but you may want to serve it for dessert. It’s more of a bread pudding, really.

This french toast BLT would be a huge hit in my house!

Honestly, this Cinnamon French Toast with Cream Cheese Glaze sounds waaaay too sweet for me, but the picture was so beautiful, I couldn't resist including it.

I realize these Gooey Caramel Pull-Aparts aren’t exactly french toast, but I’m hoping someone will make them for me some day, so here they are.
