11/9/16: Often, people who have lost their hair due to chemo, alopecia, and other diseases and conditions seek to hide their bald pates under hats or wigs. The lovely people behind Henna Heals worked for five years to change all that. Rather than hiding away people’s bald heads, they turned them into canvases for beautiful, body-positive works of art!

“For cancer patients, the henna crowns really are a healing experience. This is all about them reclaiming a part of themselves that would normally be perceived as ill or damaged or not nice to look at and making it more feminine and beautiful.” – Francis Darwin, founder of Henna Heals

Henna Heals also offered henna services for parties, including belly painting for expectant mothers. No matter what the occasion, they always donated 10% of their proceeds to help subsidize the cost of crowns for those who needed them the most. The organization closed its doors in December of 2015, and their website states that they reached their goal of starting the movement. Although it’s sad that they are no longer in business, all is not lost. They left us instructions on how to do our own!

You can follow Henna Heals on their website and on YouTube and Facebook.
