South Korea-born Austin, Texas resident Deke Cameron (A.K.A. The Glassclown) came to his art in an interesting way. Though he was always artistically inclined, he had instead pursued a desk job as his adopted American family expected. But when a relative died leaving behind a full set of stained glass tools and materials, Cameron volunteered to take them. He got inspired by the materials and learned the process quickly. He then began making what I can only call quirky stained glass art. While he says he “loves flowers and birds as much as the next clown,” his favored subjects are instead eighties and nineties culture, which along with comic book-related subjects, form the majority of his glass work.

These days, though he has to keep the desk job (I can relate…), he spends as much time working on his stained glass art as he can. Cameron is only too happy to take commissions, and he also is generous with his limited time, teaching classes via Zoom where he passes on his knowledge about copper foil stained glass, leaded stained glass, and glass mosaic work.
