8/1/16: My friend June sent me this link, and I haven’t been able to think of anything else since! You know how obsessed with all things mermaid I am. Well, Melbourne-based Etsy seller Chelsea Shiels, proprietor of Chelsea’s Flower Crowns, has been making shell crowns that any mermaid would be proud to wear!

By trade, Shiels is a florist, so it makes sense that she began by making flower crowns. Don’t get me wrong. They’re lovely. But somewhere along the line, she got the idea to shift over to shells and that’s when the magic happened. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that her model is a stunner (it may be Shiels herself), and her photos are terrific, but it’s really the crowns themselves that are the stars of the show.

She was a bit shy about her creations, and kept them to herself for a couple of years. “I was scared of people’s opinions. I thought people would think it was dumb to put shells on your head.”  But then the recent popularity of mermaids gave her the courage to try selling her creations. She’s been a real Etsy success story ever since. Her work even got the attention of Cosmopolitan magazine online this month, and now, her shop is nearly sold out!
