Detroit musician Mike Harrison creates and performs the sweetest, most joyful music I’ve heard in a while. And it’s not just his adorable music that caught my attention. There’s something refreshing and genuine about his demeanor in his videos. First, he’s mostly wearing bathrobes, which makes his performances feel more intimate. Next, he makes exactly the right amount of eye contact with the camera. It makes you feel like you’re there in the room with him an you’re in on the joke. And everything I’ve read about the guy makes him seem so… real. In an interview, he says the major factor keeping his ambition in check is his aversion to administrative work. That made me laugh out loud, but it also made me think. In a world where it seems like everyone’s trying to be internet famous, here is a man who just wants to share his gift for music and joy.
There’s something old timey and childlike about his originals. Bathrobes notwithstanding, there’s something about him that’s giving barbershop quartet. And the mustache/glasses/dimples/bathrobe combo is truly a winner.

The preschool teacher in me thinks he would be great as a performer who engages little kids in music and learning through music.
