Florida-based artist Amy Shekhter paints fantastical portraits inspired by iconic figures in pop culture, both contemporary and from times gone by. She surrounds those figures with lush multimedia backgrounds and adorns them with accents including flowerscapes and embellishments like rhinestones, diamond dust, fabric, and pearls.

Shekhter grew up in Alaska. The cold, dark months she spent there inspired her to fill her space with colorful art. After moving to Florida, she spent nearly a decade teaching art. While she loved teaching, she missed having the time to pursue her own artistic voice, so she quit to become a full-time artist. It seems to be going very well for her, and for good reason!
