1/2/17: Although she’s only 29 years old, Israeli jewelry designer and goldsmith Elina Gleizer has a very mature eye for design. She got her degree in jewelry design from Israel’s Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, and then got right to work making her extraordinarily simple but stunning pieces. Her artist’s statement communicates as clearly as her jewelry:
“My designs have a continuous dialogue with human anatomy, form and ergonomics.” She writes, “I am Passionate about making extraordinary people express themselves in a rebel-elegant way, extraordinary people who are looking to STAND OUT through innovation, originality and high product quality.”
It’s really easy for figural jewelry – especially animal jewelry – to come across as juvenile or over-precious, but Gleizer seems to strike just the right balance between which details are represented and which are implied. The resulting designs are soft and bold and undeniably beautiful.
