OST (One Selfless Thing).

We had a good friend who was diagnosed with cancer a number of years ago.  (Miraculously, she is now alive and well and living in Jersey.)  Because we have evil senses of humor, and because she knew she was going to lose her hair and wanted to do it on her terms, we wrote a Matrix parody into which we worked shaving her head.   Amid much wine and giggling, we recorded the shearing in my office. (I can’t imagine what the cleaning lady thought happened in there.) We never used the footage, though her shaved head did make quite a shocking reveal in the video. The finished products (video and head) were both awesome and were shown at a corporate outing to some very extreme reactions, some of them good.  (It might have been a little dark for the occasion . . .)

Anyway, I remember thinking while we were doing it that I should just shave my head.  I think bestie and wifey and I even talked about it, but I hesitated.  The moment passed and my scalp remained unmolested.  I have thought about this a number of times over the years, and I still don’t know why I didn’t just go for it.   Here is a video of some lovely people who are much braver than I was.  If it makes any difference, if I could go back, I’d get it right this time, even though I know I’d now look like a Shar Pei.

Donna, I think I offered to shave everyone else’s head. I don’t remember offering my own pitiful locks for the shears.

Fingers crossed you don’t find yourself in that situation again.
