This is another one of those songs (and arrangements) that just make me feel happier. Reminiscent of When I’m Gone, the Cups Song from the movie Pitch Perfect, I’ll Think of You‘s melody is very simple, but the complex harmonies and accompanying epic patty-cake routine elevate it to a whole different level. And of course, the single camera take is icing on the cake. Kurt Schneider wrote and arranged this one and directed the video, and his songs can be purchased on iTunes, so check him out.
Young Mr. Schneider has quite a number of beautiful recordings on his YouTube channel, but the one that most moved me is a cover of Landslide he performed with his equally talented mother, who he calls his first musical influence. I thought about that, and concluded that I got a lot of my musical tastes from my mother, too. I’d give anything to have had a recording of the two of us singing together. She didn’t have a great voice, but we nonetheless sang all the time, and neither of us ever cared that she wasn’t much of a singer.
