“A little boy launches into a toboggan. Unfortunately, his head up against several times the walls of the toboggan. A small incident that fun daddy.”
While I am regularly tickled by bad language translations, I generally try to keep my big yap shut. Who am I to judge? I am a native English speaker, I possess only enough French to get me in trouble, and I don’t even attempt to speak any other languages. Kudos to those who give it a shot, however imperfect their results. On the other hand, when it comes to computer-generated translations, the gloves come off.
I discovered a page on Facebook which is amusing the hell out of me today, but only partly on purpose. The page is called “Pour nous les hommes” and though their videos are pretty good, it’s their descriptions that are killing me. All of the video descriptions are written in French, but if you click on the “see translation” buttons below each video description, you get a wonderful mashup of French and English. The resulting mess is really funny.
At first, I watched each video, then clicked for the translation, but I eventually started reading the translation first to see whether I could guess what the video was about. Often, I couldn’t. Try it. It’s fun!

Did you ever come across the Let’s Speak Franglais series by punch editor Miles Kingston which gives cod-translations of French expressions e.g. Moi Aussi means I am an Australian http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-22655534

That’s fantastic! It reminded me a bit of Eddie Izzard’s bit about speaking French. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1sQkEfAdfY

I barely cared about watching the videos; the translations were enough!
