AirBNB gets a lot of ink. Some people love it, some people hate it. We’ve all heard the horror stories, but it’s still a pretty cool idea. And every so often I hear about a rental so awesome, so fascinating, so magical that I almost get up my nerve to give it a shot. This is one of those properties.
This is the two bedroom/one bath floating house designed by Steve and Nick Tidball, creative directors of the TBWA agency. The adorable, traditional-looking blue house includes its own garden with an apple tree, and one lucky AirBNB contest winner got to live in it while floated it up and down the River Thames for a week. Can you imagine?
The house rules are pretty cute, and include the following restrictions:
•No swimming in the Thames
•No Floating House parties
•No acts of piracy
I think it looks like a blast. I wonder what they’re doing with it now?

I know what you mean. We’re on the water, but with the exception of the occasional hurricane, we’re not in it. So jealous!

And I am water view (across the street from it), not water front. Which is several hundred thousand dollars different!

In my case, it’s probably several hundred thousand dollars less.

What an awesome property. That would be a great travel experience. One of my former students lives on a houseboat on the Thames with her husband and baby. Despite being artists, their place is not anything like this.
I’ve only recently heard about AirBNB (behind the times as always) as a friend who lives in London is using it to list her house while she goes on vacation. I don’t think I could handle the worry.
I had actually

No idea where that closing sentence fragment came from. Weird.

I feel the same. It would be great to make some money from renting our house, but the stress of something going wrong, someone getting hurt, something going missing, is more than I could bear.

I also don’t trust the hygiene of other people. First thing I do when we rent a holiday cottage is run all crockery, utensils etc through the dishwasher and take disinfectant wipes to the bathroom to purge it of other people’s malingering skank. I also take cleaning products to hospitals with me though so there’s that.

I want that. I used airbnb to find my Catalina vacation spot. Everything was perfect and just like the photos showed. I’m looking for my next vacation spot on airbnb.
Thanks for sharing.

Really? I keep thinking I should try it, but Beloved is less adept at rolling with surprises on vacation, and I don’t want a problem.
