What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

In the matter of Obergefell v. Hodges

gayHere’s the post I had all ready to go:

“The Supreme Court has upheld states’ right to ban same-sex marriage and to not recognize legal same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions. I’m not a Constitutional scholar, and, unlike half the internet, I’m not going to pretend I am. Of course, I’m terribly disappointed, but I kind of had a feeling that this wasn’t our year.

That said, it’s still one of my favorite weekends of the year, and I’m not going to let slow-moving progress spoil it. So here are the other Supremes with something to keep in mind.”

HAPPILY, I didn’t need it after all!!!!!!  PARTY TIME!!!!

What’s not to like? Our legal system has finally recognized that love is LOVE, the strongest natural need there is and it should not be limited by law, or anyone outside of the relationship. About time.

It’s such a huge relief. We’re lucky enough to live in a place where who we love doesn’t matter to most people, but I’m so thrilled for people in states that didn’t allow same-sex marriage! (And now we can go visit them!)

American attitudes about sex are like gawky schoolboys who giggle over their dads’ Playboy magazines. We use sex to sell everything, and then scorn it in proper company. Glad to see the Supreme Court is saying, “Grow up and unless you are in the relationship, it’s none of your business.”

YAH! I am relieved and more. I don’t doubt there will be some ugliness to follow around here (I haven’t had the stomach yet to read what Paxton and Abbot have to say) but I celebrate the loosening of the grip of the Christian Nation crowd. And I am so happy for my friends who have had to defend their right to be recognized as married.

I wonder if this means I’m going to get to go to a bunch of weddings soon. Maybe I need a new hat!

Today is my husband’s and my 30th anniversary and we are THRILLED that the SCOTUS declared on our special day that every consenting adult in the USA can enjoy the life commitment, joy, mutual respect, and publicly honored loving relationship we celebrate. Confetti and champagne all around!
