6/1/15: Happy Pride Month! I love June, and not just because it’s typically the first really summery weather we have in New York. Today, in honor of LGBT Pride, I’d like to explore some rainbow-hued art.

Etsomnia™ 144: Rainbow Nope

Classic first pride mistake: It’s strictly one rainbow per customer, kids. I appreciate her enthusiasm, though!

Et·som·ni·a (/etˈsämnēə/), noun, 1. a sleep disorder caused by obsessive Etsy browsing. 2. The surprising arrival of weird handmade merchandise ordered when one is only half conscious. (True story.) 3. An excuse for me to be an obnoxious, snarky New Yorker once per week. Continue reading

Etsomnia™ 94: Rainbows and Peace

It's not that I don't find it hilarious or that the makers aren't in on the joke. (They are). It's that I've reached an age where people might assume I intended no irony. By GoodieTees

One Exceptionally Beautiful Thing

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.

The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is reversed.

It is so ordered.” – Justice Anthony Kennedy, author of today’s Supreme Court written decision

I will never forget today.

In the matter of Obergefell v. Hodges

gayHere’s the post I had all ready to go:

“The Supreme Court has upheld states’ right to ban same-sex marriage and to not recognize legal same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions. I’m not a Constitutional scholar, and, unlike half the internet, I’m not going to pretend I am. Of course, I’m terribly disappointed, but I kind of had a feeling that this wasn’t our year.

That said, it’s still one of my favorite weekends of the year, and I’m not going to let slow-moving progress spoil it. So here are the other Supremes with something to keep in mind.”

HAPPILY, I didn’t need it after all!!!!!!  PARTY TIME!!!!
