What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

The Kiss

1We were in Puerto Rico at the wedding of a lovely couple last weekend when the Orlando tragedy happened. I can’t stop thinking about this wonderful couple and all the wonderful same-sex couples I know. And I keep feeling like this is a violation of the highest order. Allegedly, this terrifying act was inspired when the shooter witnessed two men kissing. Whatever your personal beliefs, the sight of strangers in love should not inspire violence.

I am sad, sad, sad, and I thought we could all use a little love. Inspired by Oliver Wasow’s Facebook album “Love Wins,” I put together my own.

And if you want to read about the victims of the shooting, the Orlando Sentinel has been posting details about each of them on their website as they become available. It’s a heartbreaking read, but I think these people deserve to be remembered as individuals as well as part of this terrible tragedy.

  1. I think your response to this horrific tragedy is a very apt one. If it is true that witnessing love provoked such a violent act of hate then let love be the thing that combats and drowns out that hate. As an aside, I love vintage photos and these lovely portraits of couples really made me smile on what has been a difficult day for me on a personal level on top of national and global events. Thank you for sharing your beautiful things and sending out those rays of positivity into the world. You make a difference. Know that.

  4. Do not go to the place the sick person of that day took life, but go to the places that kisses so sweet dwell and lift us. The killer was mentally ill and the innocence of that day departed, but that the kisses remain and love can stay with us all. What happened that day doesn’t change love, love is what it is and kiss those wanting and needing those, for we are not that day, for we are here and are so much stronger than hate, defeated and weak.
