*No, not that kind of swinging.

Cécile Mclorin Salvant

Big Band Holidays” is the 2015 recording by Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) with Wynton Marsalis. Featuring the adorable Cécile McLorin Salvant, the lovely Gregory Porter, and the too-cool René Marie, the album is eminently listenable. My far-and-away favorite is René Marie’s “‘Zat You, Santa Claus?” which is making it very hard for me to sit still.

I hope you enjoy the album, and I hope that everyone who celebrates has a happy, healthy, swinging Christmas Eve Eve!

  2. OMG. I don’t do Jazz, but looked at Related, and listened to AK with the Wexford Carol. Just Lovely. Many thanks.

  3. What a wonderful gift…thank you. I have it on in the background while I am baking (again… the oven has hardly cooled off in 3 days) and wrapping gifts. My husband, Mark, and I are going to Columbus this evening to attend the “Eve of the Eve” service at Danielle’s church. Danielle is in the choir and the band this year and she will have a solo on her sax, I can hardly wait. Here’s hoping that you and yours have a great Christmas.

    • I’m so glad you’re playing the album! I have it on repeat myself. Of course, my scene is much less bucolic. I’m at work putting out fires, but at least the soundtrack is seasonal!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Tell Danielle I said hi and break a leg!

      • I will pass your good wishes to Danielle. Lady, try not to stress too much. Just think of some of the lines from the movie Elf and have a secret laugh (our son, Bobby, often ends our telephone conversation with ” Call you every 5 minutes” in the voice of Will Farrell ). I know it’s silly, but sometimes silly will save your sanity.

      • Amen to that! I’ll be fine. I just don’t feel like working today (or tomorrow or next week). Have fun!
