Garden Tower by John Kiley
Sculptor John Kiley‘s glassworks are beautifully balanced, both literally, seeming to defy gravity, and figuratively, with his intuitive use of color, form, and negative space. He says it’s the connections between the individual elements he’s most interested in exploring. His stacked pieces, like the one above, are all fused together “with a single membrane.” I have no idea what that means, but good for him.
A former gaffer for Dale Chihuly’s chandelier team, he has also worked for Lino Tagliapietra, Dante Marioni, Richard Marquis, and other well-known glass luminaries.
His beautiful pieces are larger than they seem in photos. I’ll bet they’re really impressive in person. Here’s another artist to add to my someday list!

So much beautiful glass. So little money. It’s a curse.
Yet again you have out done yourself.
Cheers

Hi Donna! I like the quest you have set up to find OBT every day! Thank you for your appreciation of John Kiley’s work… It is indeed something to be experienced in person as the composition changes with each viewpoint. If you would like to see a selection of works, we have his work in Stockbridge MA, and if you are in Florida, he will be having a show in St. Petersburg this coming month, at the Morean Center/Chihuly Collection Gallery. Happy, Beautiful Trails, Kim

It’s cool that the Museum of Glass has artist residencies.

It really is! Wouldn’t that be a cool job?
In a perfect world (which this is not), I’d get to retire from the day job, go someplace cool and learn to make glass and sculpture and art and jewelry and fashion and music, and turn out to be a prodigy at everything I do! In reality, I work, and I blog, and I dream. that’s nice, too.

I wish I could have a big one in my front yard so others could love it as much as we do!

These are lovely works of art. And now I can’t get Joni Mitchell’s song “Circle Game” out of my head.

You’re welcome. It’s one of my all-time favorite songs, and it was already in my head because today is grandson Danny’s 13th birthday. (Too fast!)
