Artist and designer Victor Solomon’s awesomely-titled website, Literally Balling, is full of beautifully-crafted stained glass basketball backboards and jeweled nets. Meant as luxury objects, they’re certainly not functional, but they are absolutely stunning. In echoing church decor in his pieces, Solomon’s intention is to represent the near-religious worship by the fans for the players.

“Stained glass. Historically reserved for the religious, for the opulent, for royalty, here stained glass is juxtaposed to arresting effect. Literally Balling connotes a host of disparate narratives: a religious devotion to sport; the athlete as modern-day king of court; the proletarian drift of basketball from project pick-up games to new-found cultural heights; even a cautionary comment on the fragility of luxury.” -About Literally Balling

I would have a heart attack if anyone dared take a shot of any of these backboards. How stunning!

Amazing! They’re all beautiful, but I think the blue and white one at the top is my favourite.
