Ali Gulec
Ali Gulec is an illustrator and co-owner of Ikiiki Design Studio, based in Istanbul. His day job is designing tshirts, but for fun, he uses a combination of traditional and digital collage to create beautiful skull art. Gulec discusses why he thinks his skulls have caught on:
“I believe people like my skulls because the contradictions such as life and death are much more obvious and visible in these pieces. Also, I have observed through the years that people are excited to see something resembling death doesn’t need to be scary and can be appealing for any person, even for my grandma :).”
Artist created, grandma approved. Can’t do better than that!

Oh, the cats on the table in the window. Subtlety at its best! Have you read “The Lovely Bones”? Fantastic. Buy his T-shirt; read the book. Heaven. Have a good one, Donna.

The cats on the table remind me of Escher’s work. Beautiful work.

These are all exceptional. I love the way that focusing on the details blurs the ability to read it as a skull but pulling back from the detail brings the skull into sharp relief. I also like that the elements he uses vary from image to image. Very clever.
