Albinism is an hereditary genetic trait characterized by a melanin deficiency. It typically presents as a lack of coloration in skin, hair, and often eyes, and appears across the animal kingdom. Some cultures have revered those affected with albinism, others have ostracized them, but it’s fairly unusual that they are celebrated as the beauties they are.
But portrait photographer Yulia Taits does just that. Her project, Porcelain Beauty, features people with albinism in photos that are sensitive and ethereal and indisputably beautiful.
You can see more of Taits’ photos on her website and her Instagram.

And today, few hours before I saw this post, I was thinking about my love for albinos. How lovely and adorable they look. The albinos we have here in Nigeria don’t look so fair, but they’re as beautiful. Those pictures look so magical and sweet. I love albinos, I love ’em all!!!❤❤

I went to school with identical twins with albinism, and they always seemed a little magical to me. Since they were the first twins I’d ever known, I used to think their closeness was due to their coloring rather than their twinness.

These are fantastic portraits and I love any project that celebrates the beauty to be found in diversity. I was at school for a time with siblings who had albinism and I was always in awe of their perfectly white hair.

I was convinced the ones I went to school with were fairies or angels.
