Travel is fun, and we got to see a ton of new places on this trip, but honestly the thing I enjoyed most about the trip were the feral-but-friendly cats we encountered all over Italy, Greece, and even Turkey. They also made me long for my little darling Goosie, so today is a tribute to the cats we met and the cat we missed.
Cat photographer and kitten rescuer Andrew Marttila has a deep and abiding love for his subjects. That love comes through loud and clear in his work. As a cat lover myself, I can really appreciate the rapport he manages to form with these challenging, deeply independent animals. He travels the world, getting beautiful photos of the cats he encounters, and I can completely relate. My friends and I took many, MANY photos of the cats we encountered during our trip. Our photos weren’t quite as successful as Marttila’s, though.
Not only does Marttila take lovely photos of cats, he and his wife are also in the rescue business and have formed a not-for-profit kitten rescue called Orphan Kitten Club.
