What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Good in Bed

Frances Featherstone

I cannot get enough of the paintings by Frances Featherstone, and I’m not the only one. Her work has won awards all over the place! The majority of her subjects are positioned in their beds or are at least comfortably at home, and there’s something very cosy about them. Besides being beautiful and colorful and deeply sweet, the relaxed poses and intimate interiors make me sleepy! (And nothing makes me sleepy.) I’d love to have one (or all) hung in my bedroom for sleep inspiration.

The East Sussex artist got her degree in fine art from the University of the West of England in Bristol. Her art isn’t limited to comfy interiors. She also paints vibrant city scenes, landscapes, abstract nudes, charming animal portraits, and, interestingly, views out of plan windows. I’ll save those for another day.

You can follow the amazing Frances Featherstone on her website and on Instagram and Facebook.

I really like the relaxed vibe to all of the paintings. They are like candid snapshots of people relaxing in comfortable and familiar spaces. I especially love the bed paintings as I think the compositions and choice of perspective makes them really engaging.

There’s something about the bed as home that is SO appealing here. The details in terms of textiles are (naturally) extremely delightful for the stitcher/quilter in me. Also, though, the bed as respite, safety, an island in the storm–makes me even more irritated with my cheap ass duvet cover that Wayfair tricked me into buying because it’s CRAP and not worthy of the Bed of Solace.

(Woke up thinking about you today.) My duvet cover isn’t BOS worthy either, though I did pay a bundle for it. Can’t recall how I got bamboozled into that purchase. It definitely wouldn’t look particularly striking from above, though it is artfully decorated with an abundance of cat hair, especially by the foot.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. It’s nice we’re following on IG now 😉 Certainly, current events are making me cast an eye toward that bed in terms of a desire for escape/solace. I have fabric for the “new” bedding but …. then I think of your cat hair, or, in my case, the leaky dog knee spots (I know, I know, ew) and the occasional “look you dead in the eye as I delicately scoot). I do think I’ll break out my collection of antique and sort-of-vintage quilts, though.

The scoot eye contact is always disturbing (and made me laugh). XO
