What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Mannequin Tree

My dear friend Thomasina spotted this trend and immediately sent it to me. (My friends are awesome!) It’s the idea of converting a mannequin or dress form into a Christmas tree, and I just love it! Of course, Beloved would never tolerate it, so I’m just going to have to enjoy the photos. If you attempt something like this on your own (that’s right Guenevere, since you are the reader most likely to own multiple mannequins, I’m talking to you…), please oh please post pics in the comments!

And if you’d like to try and make your own, there’s a great how-to on NouveauRaw.com.

These are so creative! The red velvet bodice with the big tartan bow and the pink ribbon sweetheart neckline are my favorites.

Beloved, please, please, please! Just this once…

Well they certainly are unique and would be perfect in an upscale fashion shop..

I had no idea I’d find myself FAMOUS this morning 😉 You’ve absolutely made my day.

I have not tried this, but (counts on fingers) I have 1 sewing dressform, 1 retail type dressform, 1 gold 80s fiberglass mannequin named “Hoochie Mama” (she came to me with that name), an antique late 1800s steel mesh dress form (she holds all my clip earrings), a half form for shop display, and a 50s “expandable” have form that is a vinyl or rubber coated mesh that you can push into your own shape.

Then there are various body parts, like an arm with missing fingers (our elderly neighbor at our house warming 20 years ago, to my mom, “Is that…an ARM?” My mom, “Yes, rats ate her fingers.”), an 80s fiberglass head/shoulders, a set of tits–also fiber glass, probably for bra displays and a 50s millinery model who looks like she’s got a drug problem (or just an amazingly smoky eye). Oh, I fogot, also two fiber glass heads that are on 2′ tall sort of pedastals? Maybe for hats? They’re cool but weird.

Yet, shockingly, I have not tried this yet! (makes notes for Next Year).

What a fun, creative twist on a tree. The ones with peacock feathers and colours especially appeal to me. My sisters are super-girly and into fashion so I am certain if I show them this they will be at least tempted to get their hands on dress forms.

I think my comment got sent to spam. Look up Janis Miltenberger, glass artist. Extraordinary work. A.
