I am happy to report that my efforts to steer my social media feeds to more positive things seem to be working. Yesterday, Instagram delivered me a snippet of the miraculous performance below. This is two of my all-time faves, Sara Bareilles and Rufus Wainwright, performing She Used to Be Mine from Bareilles’s magical Broadway musical, Waitress. Since the first time I saw the show, this song has haunted me, and today’s version adds another layer of wonderful. The performance was part of Bareilles’s New Year’s Eve performance at the Kennedy Center, and I was thrilled to learn that the entire performance is available on the PBS website. The concert also includes appearances by Ben Folds, Emily King, David Ryan Harris, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Madison Cunningham.
I hope it speaks to you as it is to me. I’ve watched the entire performance through once, and fully expect to watch it and enjoy it again and again. Since PBS is expected to face some really dire times over the next few years, it would also be a kindness to donate what you can. They’ve been a huge part of my life, and nearly everyone I know who spent their childhood in the U.S. grew up enjoying wholesome, positive programming like Sesame Street and Great Performances.
You can watch the whole performance on PBS.org, and you can follow Sara and Rufus at the links below:
