I never thought of putting together found objects like antique buttons and vintage illustrations and recycled fancy papers to make books and cards, but that’s what today’s artist, Kit Davey, does with great success. She describes her art as playful, and her goal is to “spread delight across the planet.” She’s certainly delighting me!
“I have been making art my whole life and I hope to continue doing so ’til my parachute fails on my 90th birthday. I love seeing people laugh and snort as they read one of my cards or turn the pages of one of my books. My art is eco-friendly: I only use recycled or found materials, scrounged from flea markets, garage sales, library sales, and yes, the trash!”
You can see all of Kit Davey’s delightful works on her found object art website and on Instagram.

She is good and teaching over at the Handmade book club…but my mind just doesn’t seem to work this way..it’s challenge for me.

I think I would have a terrible time parting with something that was one-of-a-kind. It would be very neat to have something made of recycled items that mean something to you, though.

I have some arty friends who do things like this with books, whether creating them from “junk” or taking an extant book and altering it. I love the idea of it but I don’t think I have the eye for curation of collections that is required.
