I was today years old when I heard about Minutiae, an “anti-social media app” that encourages people to document life’s ordinary and mundane moments. The app is anonymous. There are no profiles, likes, or comments. Here’s how it works. Once per day (at a random time), everyone on the app receives an alert. Their mission is to capture whatever is in front of them at that moment. Their photo is shared with another random app user, and they are show someone else’s random moment photo. It may sound uninspiring, but people are truly loving it.
“Every day isn’t an Instagram story. I love how excited I get when I get a minutiae notification! When I’m at work, it’s a fantastic and brief hiatus [in] the monotony of earning a wage. When I’m doing something out of my normal routine and that notice pops up, it’s usually a way to talk about the app! Every time I snap my picture, I take a few minutes to review my previous pictures and their time and date stamsp, and I realize how important the “boring” aspects of life actually are.”
You can learn more about the Minutiae app on their website and on YouTube and Instagram.
