What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Hazy Mae

I recently had a little time to kill between appointments and decided to pop into Saks Fifth Avenue for fun. I hadn’t been in the store in ages, and it’s always thrilling to see what is included in their current inventory of unattainables. During this sojourn, I happened upon the absolutely darling handmade cookie jars by ceramicist Hazy Mae. While functional, they’re undeniably art you’d (I’d) be proud to display. The artist’s wares also include really charming vases, candleholders, and ornaments, and nearly all are based upon famous figures from Queen Elizabeth to Elvis to Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

The way Mae tells it, she was once gifted a vintage cookie jar, and that acquisition led her down a cookie jar rabbit hole, first as a collector, then as a maker. While her prices put her work solidly out of my reach (in keeping with the rest of Saks), I can say that her objects were truly a joy to see and touch. I can see why Mae’s work is featured by a number of prominent NYC decorators and designers.

You can check out all of Hazy Mae’s darling wares on their website and on Instagram and Facebook.

These are terrific! And I love that they are monochrome so that the fun shapes and character are foregrounded.
