Persimmon Creek Glass

Oklahoma-based artist Jenny Dillon makes kiln-fused glass art inspired by “the seasonal plants in the pasture, many moods of the sky, the sea, and forest.” Whatever her inspiration, I find them just lovely! I am also wowed by the artist’s motivation:

“Creating glass art is my way of sending peace and love into the world! I’m obsessed with trying new techniques or deconstructing and rebuilding time-honored methods. Color, texture, and depth are the fundamentals of any piece that I make. My inspiration is the undeniable beauty of the world around me…”

Dillon’s process is lengthy, but she likes to take her time. She first chooses her colors and pieces, and fuses them together in a kiln at 1700 degrees. She then cools the piece and refires it, shaping it each time it comes out of the kiln, until the color, texture, and shape are what she wants. Since each firing takes up to 24 hours and her pieces usually go through between 3-4 firings, finished works generally take days to finish. Well worth the effort, I think!

You can see all of Persimmon Creek Glass’s wonderful work on their website and Instagram, and you can buy their beautiful pieces on Etsy.

The colours and visual textures are wonderful. I especially like the pieces with “crispy” edges.
