My OBT

What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Riga Art Nouveau Museum

Riga, Latvia, is the home to a huge collection of art nouveau work, perhaps more even than Paris. It therefore makes sense that Riga would be the logical location for the world’s best art nouveau museum, Rīgas Jūgendstila Centrs, in English the Riga Art Nouveau Centre. The building housing the collection was built in 1903 as a private house for Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns. The site includes the most extravagant Nouveau ceilings, walls, furnishings, and even period costume, but it’s the staircase that captures most people’s attention.

You can learn more about the Art Nouveau Centre on their website on on Instagram and Facebook.

I have a Belgian friend who is obsessed with all things Art Noveau and appears to plan her vacations around seeing more examples of that style. Latvia is one of the countries she visited for just that reason. I loved Art Noveau when I was a teen but then I hit my 20s and have been an Art Deco/MCM person since then.
