If you spend any time on the internet, you’ve no doubt come across something like today’s subject, but these are the originals. These are the spicy wings interviews know as Hot Ones from the YouTube channel First We Feast. Host Sean Evans, who doesn’t have much personality, but must have a steel stomach, asks celebrities questions about their careers and their personal lives while they both eat chicken wings doused in increasingly-hot sauces. The first one below is my favorite because the incandescent Melissa McCarthy came with a hilarious arsenal of items to help combat the heat. I won’t spoil the surprises, but her first genius move is that she brought milk in a spray bottle.
“Is this safe?” Lady Gaga
“Am I dying?” Viola Davis
There are a LOT of these interviews on the First We Feast channel, and I certainly haven’t watched them all, but I put a few faves down below, including one with my friend and comedy idol, Wanda Sykes. I love how hard these poor folks keep trying to be professional and charming while their bodies feel like they’re in flames. Hope you enjoy them!
You can watch all of First We Feast’s fun videos on YouTube.
And because I can’t resist, here’s a taste of another First We Feast series, Hot Ones Versus, where two icons ask each other very personal questions while consuming increasingly spicy wings. I have only watched this one, but it was so much fun, I had to watch it twice. Aubrey Plaza vs. Patti LuPone is epic. At one point, Plaza develops a speech impediment.

Darn! Jason Bateman might have had no tolerance for spicy food, but he did great! Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon…😂🤣

My sons have shown me several Hot Ones videos and we all have a good chuckle. It actually inspired them to start an annual winter break tradition of cooking up wings and testing their tolerance for increasing levels of hot sauce. My two oldest sons love very hot sauces (we have a ridiculously large collection) so they always win but they all have fun nonetheless and I enjoy spectating.

I didn’t used to love spicy food, but since having Covid, my sense of taste comes and goes, and I don’t think it will ever be as sharp as it was. I am now always ordering the most spicy thing on every menu.
