Rommy De Bommy

Netherlands handbag designer Rommy De Bommy is inspired by… food. Yes, food. And not in a Judith Leiber rhinestoned ladylike donut bag kind of way. Nope. De Bommy’s purses actually look like the foods after which they’re modeled, though they are sometimes oversized to make them more useful. It looks like the models are carrying those realistic-looking plaster cakes that used to festoon bakery windows. (Why did no one ever dust those things?) But somehow, these bags end up looking kind of fantastic anyway. I don’t love them all, but I would be very entertained to see any of them in the wild. And in case the purses aren’t enough for you, she also makes jewelry and bowties in the same style.

I am never disappointed by the wildly-diverse creativity we humans keep churning out. And Rommy De Bommy is an exceptional example of that diversity!

You can see all of the crazy/wonderful creations by Rommy De Bommy on their website and on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

These are so fun! I would love to watch peoples’ expressions if they saw something like this. I love them all! Move over, Judith Leiber!

I’m 1000% here for whimsical silliness. We need it!

They aren’t for me but not everything has to be. While I would not own one (I am a practical bag person) I definitely appreciate and applaud the fun and the whimsy involved and I am sure they would create joy for anyone who saw them out and about.
