Chicago-based artist Stef Ross creates sculptural art inspired by fashion and pop culture. Considering how whimsical and brightly-colored most of her work appears, it should really come across as silly or at least juvenile, but the unexpected nature of what she creates gives her work more impact.

Like me, she is drawn to shiny things, and sparkly things, and bright colors. Ross says she like to make the type of art that’s easy to love, and I think she’s hitting that mark! I love the flowers and the links, but it’s the bejeweled bathing suits that really have my mouth watering.

I especially love the chain links. They actually remind me of a chunky lucite necklace I just bought at a flea market and which I need to figure out how to extend a bit.

I always admire chunky jewelry like that on other people. They usually look great against a plain backdrop like a swing-shaped turtleneck, but my, erm, prow means they never lay right. So I buy them and they sit in the jewelry box.

See I have the opposite problem of having more than ample curves everywhere apart from my bosom so a chunky necklace actually gives me volume to help even out my proportions. My problem with the lucite necklace is it sits just a bit too close to my chin and neck, which is not an area I want to draw attention to.
