Yesterday, I shared some remarkable art made from some pretty uninspiring materials in Spare Parts. Today, I’ve found an artist who works in something even more ubiquitous and unexpected – chain link fencing.
Artist Soo Sunny Park has created this spectacular installation using 37 sections of fencing and thousands of plexiglass squares which send colorful patterns all over the room. The patterns shift with the sun, so that it’s a constantly-evolving light show all day long.
I really enjoyed watching her work in the video below. Somehow, she gets it all to hang together using nothing more stable or sophisticated than zip ties! I liked the other works showcased on her website, too, but this was the one that really grabbed me.

I think so, too. It’s fascinating how ephemeral the work seems, considering what it’s made of.

True. It was quite surprising. It makes you wonder just how little effort it would take to brighten up the world we live in.

If it wasn’t for all the drunks, that would be very nightclub-worthy.

I like it! It would be great hung much higher and lit from below.

Ah, yes – I can see all the inebriates falling flat on their backs on the dancefloor… 😀

Oh, come on. They were going to do that anyway. This would just offer up a prettier view.
