In case you haven’t been watching them, Jerry Seinfeld’s web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” is an absolute delight. They just released the first episode in Season Six, and Jerry is driving around (in a 1964 Aston Martin, no less) with his old buddy, Julie Louis-Dreyfus. It’s immediately apparent that they haven’t seen each other in years.
As entertaining as this video is, as funny as they both are, the real reason it’s today’s Beautiful Thing is the obvious closeness between Julia and Jerry. They crack each other up so hard, they keep having to stop what they’re doing to laugh.
“I love anything you have to say today that starts with ‘Do you remember.'”
With real old friends, no matter how long it’s been, when you get together again, it’s like no time has passed at all. I am incredibly lucky in that I have quite a few friends with whom I’ve reconnected over the last couple of years, and so Jerry and Julia’s immediate intimacy in this video feels very familiar. You know how it goes. Okay, maybe there’s a bit of catching up to do, but there’s nothing like the instant connection of seeing a real friend again after years (or, in my case, decades) apart.
So this is dedicated to all the old friends that I’ve found over the past few years (thanks, Facebook!). Thanks to all of you for still being who I remember and for remembering me!

Erm… Not to be pedantic. But. It’s a 1964 Martin. 😉 Don’t go thinking I know cars. Just a former editor and sucker for details (also a little sleep deprived so nit pickier than usual). Is nit pickier a word? Did I just invent a word?
Love the bond of old friends By the way.

Your post’s timing is perfect . . . justa few days reconnected with my college roommate. Lives in South Africa now! We hadn’t talked in years, but it was like no time had passed at all.

The Modesto High Class of 1973 recently gathered to celebrate The Summer of 42; years since MHS. It was Magnificent!, Fantastic! Amazing! just like this video. Reconnecting friends don’t count the years only the hugs and laughs.

And it gives you a chance to remember your old self fondly. I tend to look back and cringe, but when I get together with someone who reminds me of the good stuff, I feel more kindly toward younger me.

Love how Jerry matches up the cars to his guests personality. Great show.

I love it, too. The Tina Fey episode is my favorite. She really is Liz Lemon. That made me so happy.

I could turn down the sound and crack up watching them crack each other up. ‘swimmin’ in goo.’ Nothing ever took the place of Seinfeld. This was awesome!
