Ruched metallic leather. . . something. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the giant flower. And the fact that it needs to be plugged in at night.
Et·som·ni·a (/etˈsämnēə/), noun, 1. a sleep disorder caused by obsessive Etsy browsing. 2. the surprising arrival of weird handmade merchandise ordered when one is only half conscious. (True story.)
The days may still be steamy, but our New York nights are turning chillier, so my thoughts have turned to leather. Leather jackets are one of my favorite things about fall, so I started poking around on Etsy to see what turned up. As usual, Etsy didn’t disappoint. I discovered some beautiful things, and some, you know, other things. But it got me thinking. What other leather items could Etsy cough up?
Leather is tricky. It’s way harder to work with than fabric, and much less forgiving. Some of what I found was trying way too hard, some of them missed the mark, and others looked like Pinterest fails. At least they’re not boring!
As usual, links to the items for sale appear below each picture. For more Etsy fun, check out all my weekly Etsomnia™ posts. Follow me on Bloglovin!

Desperately overworked jacket, possibly intended as an inept homage to Terry Gilliam.

If you’ve ever owned leather pants, you know they can be difficult to get on. If you’ve ever owned a toddler, you know they’re difficult to dress. Put those two things together, and you get a screaming, squirming toddler with leather pants stuck around his ankles.

Do you and your siblings like frightening vacationing teens but lack the time to create your own masks made from your victims? Etsy’s got you covered!

Is this looking familiar to anyone else?

As horrifying as these “joggers” are, I admit I was really very entertained imagining the noise they’d make if you actually tried jogging.

I’ll ‘fess up…though I am a black leather kind of gal, I would wear the overworked flower jacket 🙂 – Karen

I was thinking there was not going to be a single item in this edition of Etsomnia that I liked but then you saved the day with Cthulhu. I still would not pay money for it but I do think it is rather cool.

It’s pretty awesome. I’d wear it. Maybe not to work, but I’d wear it.

Maybe I have led a sheltered life, but I don’t even know what some of those things are used for (especially the ones at the beginning of the post with links), and some of them made me cringe. Although I did love that black and white leather jacket. Nice job…your Etsomnias never fail to enlighten my simple world.

I know a tiny bit about Japanese culture and when I saw the kabuki mask I thought to myself “that doesn’t look like any Japanese demon I’ve ever seen.” So I did a little research. Still doesn’t look like any kabuki mask or Japanese demon I’ve ever seen. Also, I wasn’t any more likely to buy the mask after reading that the hawk and owl bits used came from road kill. Not a selling point.
