What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

730 Days!

Today is the second anniversary of my daily posts on MyOneBeautifulThing.com. This makes 730 consecutive days of blogging. I can hardly believe it! Like all good things, it feels both like I just started and also like I’ve always been doing it.

I’m having a blast, and I really love what I’ve created here. But the real standout for me is how generous all of you have been; with your time, with your attention, with your likes and comments and follows. From the bottom of my judgy, sarcastic, sentimental, silly heart, I thank you!

Today, it seemed fitting to share the work of someone else who’s committed to creating something every day. These are the gorgeous, teensy paintings of Brooke Rothshank.

“In 2014 I had a 7-year-old, a 2-year-old, and was having trouble finding time to complete my detailed miniature compositions. I decided to paint one small object a day for a year in effort to become more productive and less frustrated. Doing a daily painting pushed me to let go of making each piece too precious. I was able to paint a piece and if I didn’t like it, no problem! There would be another chance to try tomorrow.”

If these are less precious than her previous work, I can’t even imagine what those looked like. Enjoy these beautiful, tiny works of art, some of which are available for purchase on Etsy!

She is definitely talented–as are you. You find such interesting stuff and make is so much more accessible for me. Thank you and congratulations on doing this every day for two years. I wish I had your commitment–or at least some more ideas.

Remarkable! I’m bowled over by the steadiness of her hand and the power of her eyesight. Happy Anniversary! I’m so glad I found your blog however long ago. I do so enjoy your daily dose of loveliness and wit and I appreciate that you take the time to reply to every comment too.

These are splendid! (Didn’t you have another post in the last 729 days about another artist who did wee paintings of birds and animals; I remember loving those too.) And congratulations on the milestone, mermaid!

Congratulations, Donna – it takes serious dedication to make the time to post something interesting and witty every day. I’m another one who starts my day reading your post (along with the reruns of the For Better or For Worse comics strip). Thanks for what you’re doing.

I love these and her project to do one per day. That’s ambitious with two young kids at home! These days I consider myself accomplished if I wage successful interventions in the older’s horrific experiments (think “here baby brother want to eat this brown thing that smells like pooh? Oh wait it is pooh!”) I can’t imagine making art in my home these days – all the more grounds for applauding this devotee to her passion!

Happy belated blogiversary. I’m still as delighted to watch you doing this as I was the first time I stumbled across your fab blog!
