*And Threes and Fours …

In April of 2014, someone posted a little kid dance recital video that so entertained me, I jotted off a quickie post to share it. Going through some of my old blog posts last night, I came across the piece, which I called “Get Away From Me, Tiny Dancer,” and decided it deserved a proper look.

Ask anyone; I am always game to go to children’s dance recitals. The most hilarious things happen there. They’re all id at that age; they don’t think, they just react. When you put tiny children on a stage before they have a real sense of how they’re supposed to behave, the results are always spectacular. The fact that they’re misbehaving in matching tutus just makes it that much more wonderful.

So here are the best of the worst. Some of these kids are hamming it up, some are dialing it in, and some are spoiling for a fight. These are the most adorable, most unexpected dance recital videos I could find. If they give you half as much joy as they’re giving me, you’re in for a treat!

And in case you were wondering, I was always the one making up her own choreography, typically at the front of the stage. Yes, I knew the choreography, but I figured why pass up the opportunity to do a solo when I had all those backup dancers ready to go?

And this next one was all me:

I had forgotten one important thing about little Miss Johanna – she did not miss a step or a beat! She knew the choreography and nailed it. The attitude just put it over the top. I was (until my mother mercifully let me take piano lessons, instead) always the fat kid in the back row. 🙂

I loved the videos of the kids just doing their own dang thing. I think non-conformity, creativity, and individuality are to be celebrated more than an ability to memorise the actual moves. But I would say that since I cannot dance to save myself. The standout star has to be Johanna with her spunk and sassy attitude. That kid will go far in anything and everything she sets her sights on I’m sure.

OMG I just got a chance to watch these today and my husband and I were in stitches. Thanks for the good laugh.
