MaorZabarHats
There’s a lot of overlap between beautiful and bizarre, between stylish and clownish, between haute and hilarious. Tel Aviv hat designer Maor Zabar Hats seems to dwell mostly in that grey area. But as silly as some of his designs are, they are beautifully executed and wonderfully joyful. Unless I was in costume, I can’t really see myself wearing one of them in public, but I certainly applaud their entertainment value. They’re also putting me in mind of spring, which I am very, very ready for!
Of course, I’m posting the kookiest ones, but Zabar offers some comparatively sane-looking ones as well.
I’d love to hear what you think!
You can follow Maor Zabar Hats on Etsy and on Instagram.
Epilogue: I was reminded of a great Burl Ives recording that seems too good not to share. Here’s a little bug music!

I wish I was a hat person but I don’t look good in them. However, I would not wear any of these if I were. Great imaginations and i love the venus fly trap hat!!

Some of them are almost wearable. The one with the dragonflies or maybe the one with the cherry pie today, since it is pi day.

Those are amazing! I love the dragonfly, fly trap, and foxglove hats in particular. I love hats – not necessarily flamboyant ones – but I have a large head. I even struggle to find men’s hats that fit my fat bonce. The struggle is real.

That was maybe the best use of “The struggle is real.” I’ve ever encountered. I’m sure you have a fantastic bonce.

Thank you! I’m actually pruning my collection some just because I don’t have room for them all. But only getting rid of the cheep sun hats at least for now. They take up so much space and I probably don’t need five of them.

You need a head shed in which to keep your hats!

I love hats. At one time I collected beautiful antique hats, but I’m glad to say not one of these hats would you find in my collection.

I am so with you. I have a huge collection of vintage hats which will mostly go unworn. But there is something about them that is so special … looking at the work that went into them … how wonderful some lady must have felt while wearing them at the time … and how this is likely an era we will never see again. In the same way the wonderful designs on this web just leave me fascinated.

As long as artists are still moved to make beautiful things, their era isn’t over!

Wow! I used to have a Burl Ives record, but he never sang this one. AMAZing little film. Made my evening. Thanks, Donna!

I love this recording. It was on a record my parents bought on our trip to Disney in 1971. I used to sing it to my daughter.

I have no idea how my parents missed making this part of my childhood, it’s right up their alley! OTOH, when I was a teenager, my brother introduced me to The Butterfly Ball and The Grasshopper Feast: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Butterfly_Ball_and_the_Grasshopper%27s_Feast and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv8F8reGa80
And I would definitely wear the dragonfly hat.
