Taher Chemirik
Algerian-born artist Taher Chemirik makes beautiful, bold jewelry and also room dividers, chandeliers and other decor items he refers to as jewelry for the home. The same themes and lines run through both his large and his small pieces. He first studied architecture at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Algiers, then he got a degree in fine arts at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Chemirik’s post-graduation job designing costumes and accessories at the Paris Opera got him noticed by the fashion world, and he was quickly scooped up by the Ralph Lauren corporation. But that didn’t suit him, so he left his secure job to pursue a career in jewelry design.
His bold designs attracted the attention of Karl Lagerfeld who invited him to collaborate on several collections. Since then, Chemirik has created exclusive pieces for quite a few of the world’s most iconic brands including Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga. It’s easy to see why.

I love the sort of 1950s space race era vibe to these designs. Don’t they look a bit like set and costume designs for Star Trek? I love the mixture of bold shapes.

Thank you! I really enjoyed looking at his work. Which is as close as I’ll ever get to it. (Another scary expensive artist. Yay, me.)
