Liftware
Verily, the medical research organization formerly known as Google Life Sciences, has created many innovative products over the last few years to make people’s lives easier, but perhaps their most significant innovation is the beautifully simple robotic Liftware spoons. They come in two variations:
- Steady: a spoon which reduces shaking for sufferers of Parkinsons and other conditions which cause hand tremors
- Level: a spoon which self levels to help people who have limited arm or hand movement
The purpose of both implements is to increase the self-sufficiency of people with health issues that could complicate the process of feeding oneself, something I know I take for granted. Both of these products work to counteract any unexpected or uncontrolled movements in a really fascinating way. Watch this.
The starter kit for each costs just under $200, which is pretty reasonable considering the quality of life it’s restoring. Please pass this wonderful invention on to anyone you know who might benefit from the product.
You can read more about both Liftware spoons on the organization website.

I know some people it would have helped, too. It’s too bad it’s too late for him.

Fantastic. Now if someone would only design flatware for the able bodied where the eating end is heavier than the handle end, so when you lay it at the edge of the full plate, it doesn’t flip over onto the floor spattering food everywhere. 🙂

Both products are brilliant. I have known several people that each product would have helped. I hope they can bring the price point down to make it more accessible to everyone. I am going to send the link to one of my sisters who is a special needs teacher and is always looking for ways to help her students regain some independence.

Our friend is a C-4 quad who has limited use of his hands. He currently uses Velcro straps to secure the spoon/fork. I’ve forwarded this to him. Thanks for thinking of others to improve their quality of life. I pray for mass production and sales to bring the cost down. God bless you!

Looks super! The only thing is, someone with a bad tremor will have a problem setting it up to charge. Can you imagine trying to do it with no help? Don’t know a way around that, though…
