What if you spent every day looking for One Beautiful Thing?

Paint it Black

I have always been a big fan of color, and I think decorating with black is one of the most impactful, classy colors out there. Sure, it can conjure up visions of vampire vibes, but used judiciously, it can also be calming and intimate feeling. Of course, if black is too severe for you, navy, charcoal, and deep ink purple work just as well (if not better). The use of very dark colors on walls makes large spaces feel more cozy, classes up small spaces, and makes light, neutral furnishings really pop. Black also makes a great foil for brightly-colored pieces. And in a mostly white space, black is a great way to highlight a feature to which you want to call attention like a fireplace or super high ceiling or a gallery wall. Using black furniture or accents in an all-white room is also a great way to anchor the space and give it dimension.

I have collected some gorgeous photos and a few videos that really do a great job illustrating ways to use either a lot of black or just a touch to class up a space. Enjoy!

Note: I have included photographer attribution wherever I could find it. If I have used your property without attribution, please let me know so I can correct it.

The smallest bedroom in our house is painted dark charcoal. My son wanted black but I thought that could be a bit too stark for such a small space, though I think now it would have been fine since the charcoal is actually really dark anyway. He thinks it feels like a cozy den in his room and it helps that the woodwork is white and his bedding is white with some black. When we finally get around to remodelling our 1990s kitchen, I will be considering black for our cabinetry. My thinking is choosing such a classic colour will give it longevity even if I change up some of the details within the kitchen over time.

Have never decorated with black but I did once paint the living room a chocolate brown..I loved it and I do like to wear black. Aka the little black dress.
