River Mansion

Completed in 1902, the River Mansion at 337 Riverside Drive on the Upper West Side is an outstanding example of Gilded-Age architecture. The property sits on the corner of Riverside Drive and West 106th Street, overlooking Riverside Park and the Hudson River. The home’s 10,000 square feet include a 2,000 square foot rooftop deck with views like you’ve never seen. Like many buildings erected in upper Manhattan around that time, the manse was designed by architect Robert D. Kohn. He attributed his taste for Beaux-Arts architecture to his years studying in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

The five-story landmarked River Mansion features 5 en-suite bedrooms plus 2 half baths, and 2 kitchens (!) because why not. And no mansion worth the title would be complete without a grand foyer, formal dining room, 7 wood-burning fireplaces, library, media room, and wine cellar. There is also an apartment in the basement with private access which I’ll bet is also a knock-out. Oh, and the wine fridge in the primary bedroom dressing room is making me salivate.

And if you find yourself yearning to acquire this glorious property, you’re in luck! The River Mansion is currently on the market, listed at $12,995,000. It was originally listed in 2023 for $24 million, so no joke, the current price kind of feels like a bargain. You can check it out on Realtor.com.

While the current decor is far too fussy and OTT for my taste (I had sensory overwhelm just watching the video tour), the property itself is gorgeous. It’s a whole lot of house! Anytime I dream of living in such a massive home, I remind myself there would also be so many more chores to contend with. Of course, if I could afford a house like this, I could no doubt afford to hire people to do the chores for me.

A whole lot of house indeed and what a wonderful location! I’m fixated on what I assume to be a light fixture (second photo after the video).
