Years ago, I asked our 2-year-old niece what made her happy. Her response was ‘fwogs,’ an answer hard to argue with. So today’s darling art by Samuel Popovich is here to make us happier. The artist’s website slogan is, coincidentally “Making art that makes you happy.” Great minds, he and our niece. Popovich is a 19-year-old from rural Montana & Colorado, and he reports that his love affair with art began with binge-watching Bob Ross. What a great way to start! I’d love to know just how many artists were inspired by that soothing, sweet, wild-haired man. I hope he died knowing just how much joy his Joy of Painting really brought people.
Anyway, back to Popovich. What a sweet kid!

My classroom is named the “Green Frogs” so I have been thematically indoctrinated over the years into enjoying all things frog. I think these frog portraits are delightful. I like that they are just the perfect balance of whimsical and retaining the essential nature of a frog. The proportions of the long legs and large eyes are also adorable. This artist is already very accomplished at 19 so I look forward to seeing what they create in the future.
