Glass artist Linda Rossiter – A.K.A. Glass Art by Linda – has a marvelous and unusual method of working. She works in fused glass which is not so unusual, but unlike most other makers’ fused pieces, Rossiter’s methods create a look more like mosaics or stained glass than the more blurry, blended colors of typical fused glass. The style is known as hard edge glass, and it’s been characterized as being more linear than painterly. As with stained glass, pieces are cut precisely in an exact pattern like a jigsaw. Once assembled, the pieces are fused together in a kiln. Because they can’t be fired again without losing their precise lines, they can’t really be bent or molded into many shapes. For that reason, hard edged glass pieces are typically flat or very nearly flat.
As a result of all those clean edges, everything Rossiter makes is clear and bold, and her colors are just stunning. I have a new favorite glass art style!
