Recently, when I read that a band was described by more than one reviewer as the lesbian Beatles, I just had to check them out. Sure enough, their music strongly resembles the Beatles’ early stuff. These girls may not have the staying power of the Fab Four, but they are pretty darned entertaining! These are the L.A. Exes, a queer quartet that makes very listenable pop music with a decided West Coast spin. Their lyrics are definitely adult, but that doesn’t bother me. They’ve got a cute, earwormy way of getting under my skin.

I like how the Exes pair up their raunchy, vulnerable, thoroughly modern lyrics with a 1960s pop sensibility. It makes for really fun listening.
