I have profiled quite a few food artists over the years, and they have all been very talented, but I’m not sure I’ve ever come across anyone who does a more realistic job with food than Jolanda, A.K.A. De Meal Prepper. And not only are her food creations gorgeous to look at, they also sound absolutely delicious! The darling hedgehog above is made from rice spiced with chili oil, black truffle, kurkuma, and parsley. Yum!
Jolanda didn’t originally set out to be a food artist. She was setting up her Netherlands-based food styling and plating design business, and things just got away from her.
“I started creating easy recipes and making pictures for my website about meal prepping. I got a little too enthusiastic preparing the food on the plate and ended up making animals, famous actors, flowers and other stuff instead of plain dishes.”

I, for one am truly glad she discovered and cultivated her remarkable talent. It’s really clear from her work that Jolanda is doing the work she was meant to do.

When I was very young, which was many year ago I might have done this BUT, I was told strongly = “Don’t play with your food” as I bet many young are still today. BUT I am super happy that this person did play with their food. Beautiful work — Hal

I remember some simular art that was done with all types of seeds. But I also remember when we didn’t have bank cards, ATMs, Internet and commerical airlines. Yep no TV or cell phones. Some Chefs are great with vegtables garnish on dishes also. I love today but do miss the old days also.

I feel the same about technology. On the one hand, I miss personal connections, but on the other, if people started talking to me during my morning commute, I’d be utterly miserable.

Right? I can’t even make my food look the least bit artfully arranged. My flavors are consistently good, but yikes, my plating.

These are far from works of art than food. I am so overly impressed by the details of every single item. If this was served in a restaurant, I would bever be able to eat it, it’s too gorgeous!!!

It is at first hard to see that these plates of art are actually food! I couldn’t guess the ingredients of many of them, especially that Pancake Ara.
