Epic bridge-inspired coffee table by LiquidMetalworksNJ
et·som·ni·a (/etˈsämnēə/), noun, 1. a sleep disorder caused by obsessive Etsy browsing. 2. the surprising arrival of weird handmade merchandise ordered in one’s sleep.
I love a lot of different styles. My taste runs the gamut from Asian to rustic to high Art Deco and Art Nouveau to Mission to pop art to Victorian (used sparingly) and I can appreciate at least a little of nearly every style in between. However, Tuesday’s post about Cyborg Fashion has put me in the mood for another of my faves, industrial design.
For the record, I did try to find some industrial sheesh to go with our industrial chic, but I am both tickled and a little disappointed to report I basically couldn’t find any. Turns out that if you encase it in steel and give it a brushed finish, I’m in. Of course, once I expanded my search to include “steampunk,” all kinds of dopey stuff turned up, but I mostly resisted the urge to include it.
As usual, the seller’s name below the picture links to the item for sale. For more Etsy fun, check out all my weekly Etsomnia™ posts (which are typically much more snarky)!

Okay, I generally object to non-working antiques, but I think it would be a really interesting object in an eclectic room with industrial notes. It’s a toaster, in case you couldn’t guess. Sold by RuggyRevival

I am absolutely hopelessly in love with these prairie window panels by ModaIndustria, although I could have lived without the goofy textured wall and brown chair.

I am relieved to admit I had never considered looking for “steampunk” and have now been spared the desire (chemically induced as it would have to be) to do so. I love love love that reclaimed bench. I also love the dustpan. Dustpans and brooms are very popular in our house (an appreciation I have only developed with the assistance of a 2-year old).

Two-year-olds have also inspired many people to become highly-skilled at stain removal. They’re good that way.

If you’re in to this sorta thing you should take a weekend to cruise southern Delaware. We have shops full of this stuff. Great post as usual (:

I love your posts and, especially since Etsy has gone completely off the rails, Etsomnia is one of my favorite topics. Thanks for bring OBT into my inbox every day.

Thank you! That’s really nice to hear. I’m never sure if Etsomnia appeals to anyone but me. It really is great fun putting together.
