Kanye on one side, Kim on the other. How would you ever decide? It's like the Sophie's Choice of wrapping paper

Et·som·ni·a (/etˈsämnēə/), noun, 1. a sleep disorder caused by obsessive Etsy browsing. 2. The surprising arrival of weird handmade merchandise ordered when one is only half conscious. (True story.) 3. An excuse for me to be an obnoxious, snarky New Yorker once per week.

I really enjoy my weekly obsessive search for Etsy’s best, worst, and weirdest, and this week’s search for holiday wrapping, present embellishments, and gift tags turned up some really surprising items. Perhaps I’m still rebelling against the ugly paper I grew up with, I take gift wrapping very seriously, and consider myself something of a wrapping connoisseur. Every year I have a theme, and I spend nearly as much time and energy on wrapping and embellishments as I do on the gifts themselves. I had a great time looking for wonderful and terrible wrapping stuff on Etsy this week. I think you’re going to be pleased!

"Upcycled" cassette tapes for use as gift tags and tree ornaments. There's a whole Etsy shop full of this junk.

What do you think is on these “upcycled” cassette gift tag/tree ornaments? I’m guessing Weird Al. That stuff really didn’t hold up.

Gift embellishment that reportedly doubles as a key chain. Or garbage. It could also double as garbage.

I'm going to be honest with you. There are a few people whose gifts I'd like to wrap in this paper. By PithyDiction

This is a wool pompom to use in place of a bow. Just looks like Santa left you a different kind of present.

No matter how many times you say "Christmas clothespin" in your description, it's still not a thing.

I get it. Some people love English Bulldogs. But couldn't you have found a better-looking one?

I’m all for recycling, but I don’t care if it is red and green. Mountain Dew is NOT Christmassy!

I think they're meant to be candles, but they look to me like, well, you know.

This is hideous. I wish there was time to get it before Christmas so I could put it on Bestie's present. She'd have me institutionalized.

I honestly never thought to check out Etsy for wrapping paper. Another thing to try and remember for next year. I totally love the vagina bauble wrapping paper because I have a few friends who would chortle at receiving a gift wrapped in it. I’m so impressed that you theme all your gift wrapping. I try to keep to a colour theme each year but that’s as good as I get. Happy Holidays!

Awesome as always, Donna! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and none of your presents are festooned with that crap!

I actually had a moment where I wanted to go buy presents and wrap them, instead of just shoving them into tissue paper filled bags. Fortunately, the moment passed. I do like the idea of a theme, other than Keep the Cat From Drinking the Tree Water.

Thanks so much, Donna, for a treat every morning when I read your blog. Hope your holidays are bright and shiny and free from Etsy horror.

Oh god, I remember doing horrible crafts with Christmas cards and yarn to make “ornaments.” And people wonder why I am the way I am.

No theme this year? I was going to ask! “It could also double as garbage.” LOL! LOL! LOL
